Eddie Izzard wants to be first “world comedian”

British comic Eddie Izzard has embraced Twitter and other social networking sites because they help him connect with fans all over the world. Now that he has one million people who “follow” his every thought online, the 47-year-old funnyman thinks he is closer than ever to his dream of global domination.

“I want to be a world comedian,” he said. “That’s it, absolutely! Why not? I was an ambitious kid. It’s in all the school reports, ‘He really does seem to be a determined little child’. That’s my way. I’ve always felt we have a post-empire view of ambition which is that we tried it but it meant we stole other people’s countries – as if there’s no other form of ambition. I really hate that.”

Another of Eddie’s big passions is encouraging people to do things they never thought they could accomplish. He recently ran 43 marathons in 51 days and is convinced others are also capable of achieving unthinkable feats.

“We can do way more than we think we can,” he told Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper. “Perhaps five times more. I want to encourage the entire country to go out and do something they used to enjoy doing as kids, whether it’s cycling or running or rowing – whatever the hell it is. We should grab the opportunity and go for it!”

Eddie Izzard is an amazing individual and comedian. I really enjoy his work. Live at Wembley Stadium is a hilarious DVD. I highly recommend checking it out. Here are a few clips...
